Our mission is
to support local businesses and promote commitment within
the community. The objectives of WABA, in order to reach our
mission, are to build and strengthen the economic climate of
the Westland Area; to create partnerships among business,
school, and community; to promote the Westland Area as a
desirable place to live, work, shop, do business, attend
school, and attend church; to continue planned development
of the Westland Area; and to support and improve local
businesses.
WABA hosts several activities throughout the course of the
year. The Westland Area Independence Day Parade and
Celebration is one of the biggest events of the year. It is
held on the first Saturday of July each year. WABA is
responsible for soliciting the event, including
entertainment, float/parade participants, food, and a car
show. WABA, in supporting the schools, hosts an Annual
Fundraising Dinner/Auction. Last year (2003-2004), WABA was
able to award over 18 scholarships, totaling over $13,000.
These scholarships went to students in the four high schools
within the South-Western City School District, Westland,
Grove City, Franklin Heights, and Central Crossing.
